Temper Domestic Violence delivers the “Heart of Middle England Model” which is based on emotional regulation (the development of insight and 3 forms of empathy), behaviour changes, domestic violence within the dynamics of couple relationships and the impacts of violence and abuse on children of the family. The work is open to both men and women in any variation of couple relationship.
The work is highly intensive, therapeutically informed, conducted in groups no larger than 8, delivered by a male and female facilitator in a mixture of either face-to-face work over two weekends, usually about 1 month apart or, more recently and alternatively 8 on-line sessions, of 3 hours each and 1 whole day, face-to-face on a Sunday so that it is easily accessible by people in work, or who have contact centre contacts with their children or elsewhere on a Saturday.
We have run 7 online courses during 2025 and are satisfied with the content and learning regime. These online version is really for people living a long way from an operational centre. People from the far south west and the North of England and Scotland and Wales have all completed the work, 100%.
On-line proposed course dates for 2026 are as follows, subject to revision. Face-to-face course dates will be anounced later this year as funding permits. We are now beginning to seek funding to provide the courses free of charge to the individual but with a request for a donation. We believe that this is in the best interest of children whose parents are already often burdened by solicitor’s and barristers costs, housing, contact centre and independent social worker charges. and Some mothers also need to undertake the work and cannot because they need to prioritise their children’s need over our current charges.

We stopped delivering work in Northampton in 2012, having completed work there with about 400 men and women, we moved that project to London. After completing work with about 350 men and women, we moved the West Midlands Project from Coventry to Birmingham. We delivered 4 courses in Norwich and in 2025 we delivered 3 courses in Wakefield.
Effectiveness:
More than 90% of men and more than 95% of many fewer women complete the work 100%.
We have never had enough finance to complete research into longer-term outcomes. However, the clinical psychology team which produced a report for social services into, from our point of view, a random client, wrote this, linked here.
Over the years at least 11 children with Social Services involvement from the little Northamptonshire town of Daventry (Pop. 71k approx.) have been placed with parents we have worked with!
As an example our completion statistics for 2015 are here.
